What a Birthday!

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

First of all, a month or two ago I sent my sister a picture of a cake and said she should make it for my birthday.  I had forgot all about it until I got home tonight and saw this at the kitchen table:

And at Danelle’s insistence they also made this cake:

I was very impressed with the first cake, especially in that it was made pretty quickly in a house that was 80+ degrees with the help of a 3 year old.  (and for the record, as cool as this cake is, Amy has made even better cakes).

Before cake though, I played with the kids a bit before we walked down to the neighborhood Teriyaki shop.

After the walk Thea got a little nap while the rest of us had cake.

After the cake I was completely surprised that Danelle had gotten me not 1, but 3 water guns, although she claimed one was for her to use and one for Mom, not liking when I tried to use all 3 myself.  I probably should have known what I was getting since she came up with the idea of getting me water guns while we were playing outside one day and then mentioned something about new waterguns earlier tonight.

Dance Class Recital

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Over the last couple months Danelle was in a community dance class that was a combination of ballet and tap.  Danelle has looked forward to them every week.  Last week was the last class, so family got to sit in and watch class.  I think all the little girls enjoyed having parents/grandparents there, even if they got a bit distracted.  First was warmups.

Then some ballet moves.

After the Chicken Dance they got to play with ribbons.

They did leaps over some rugs as well.

At the end of class, all of the dancers were excited to line up and get their hands stamped and wait for the end of performance sucker.

Dance class live tweet

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I’m tweeting Danelle’s dance class. See http://twitter.com/hallsa

Here is a transcript of what happened for after twitter has moved on:

I’ll try live tweeting daughter’s dance class for my lunch break today. Let’s see how it goes.

Shoes are on and they are on to stretches. D is following along this week. (was iffy in the past)

Tapping their feet with periodic jumps.

Over to the balance bar with one foot in the air. Attempts to take hands off the bar are wobbly.

Time for the chicken dance. Danelle loves this one.

Now the “he ruled the others with his quack quack quack song”

With this iPod keyboard they are onto the next thing before I can even finish typing out the tweet. They are spinning in big circle now

Just realized I am the only dad here this week. Usually at least one more. They are sitting INS circle now. Ah getting the ribbons out.

Alright a second dad just showed up. Only parent not reading magazine or playing with little kid though.

Those kids love running around with ribbon wands, but now it is time to sashay instead. (that is the word for dancing sideways, right?)

They are marching. I wonder how many followers I’m going to lose over this. Know it will all be over soon.

Switch from ballet to tap shoes complete. D and all the other girls got help switching. Much noisier in there now.

Walking back and forth to make tapping sounds. Just had a toddler drop a plate on my foot. Don’t worry I’m ok. Was 6″ fall and a small plate

They are almost done, so I’ll be stopping soon and heading home and back to work. Adiós.
