A Sleepy Meal

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Thea has gotten really interested in eating the last few weeks.  She pretty much tries anything we put in front of her and is now eating for the full length of time as the rest of the family, if not longer.  This is much nicer than when she was “finishing” about 3 times as fast as anyone else.  Of course I’ve discovered in the last three weeks that, being the one responsible for keeping her plate full of food that she shovels in her mouth, and helping Danelle with a few things as well as grating cheese for Dayna, everyone else finishes eating before me now.  It’s kind of fun to feed Thea, but it won’t be too horrible when Dayna’s arm heals and she can take an occasional turn.  Of course, one evening eating was just too much work.  Must have been a long day with Grandma; hopefully she had fun getting this tired.

Danelle’s New Pet

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

This past weekend Grandma was helping us do some gardening.  While working out there I heard Grandma say something along the line of “what is that?”  At first she thought as she was clearing some weeds she saw the tail of a small snake, similar to what she sees around home.  Then she saw it had some funny things on it’s head.  So of course, Danelle and I had to catch it to go show Mommy.

Turns out Mommy doesn’t really love slugs.  She was polite and just said something about it being pretty big, possibly adding on a yukky type adjective.  In case you couldn’t quite see it clearly in the first picture, here is another look.

Since we couldn’t keep it, we put it back where we found it.  Later in the weekend, Grandma was also shocked to see a snail over the garage door.  I’ll admit that was sort of unusual also, but I’ve seen it once before at our house.

Time For a Walk

Thea has found a new hobby the last couple days for when she isn’t busy stirring or popping teeth out.

Dance Class Recital

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Over the last couple months Danelle was in a community dance class that was a combination of ballet and tap.  Danelle has looked forward to them every week.  Last week was the last class, so family got to sit in and watch class.  I think all the little girls enjoyed having parents/grandparents there, even if they got a bit distracted.  First was warmups.

Then some ballet moves.

After the Chicken Dance they got to play with ribbons.

They did leaps over some rugs as well.

At the end of class, all of the dancers were excited to line up and get their hands stamped and wait for the end of performance sucker.

April Fools

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

In honor of the day, it seemed appropriate to share some of Danelle’s growing sense of humor, such as trying on Thea’s swimsuit.

In addition to visual humor, she also has various things she says that she finds very funny.  A common example is when she needs help, she often calls out Mommy or Daddy rather than just saying she needs help.  If she calls out Mommy and I (Shane) show up to help, she says “Hi Mommy” with a big grin.  I ask if I look like Mommy and she says “Yes Mommy”, while still grinning.  A few times this has carried through an entire meal after I initially helped her dish her plate.

That goes along with her other exploring of people’s names and family relationships.  She was fascinated when she discovered Mommy and Daddy had “other” names (Dayna and Shane).  She is also interested after seeing family to know who Mom’s Mom is or who is Dad’s sister, and so on.  Of course, since she knows our other names, she occasionally uses them.  Many people who have been around her get a look of shock and/or amusement when something like the following happens (an actual event).  Danelle burst into a room and announced “Shane, Dayna, I’m taking my shoes off”.  Typically we see the pattern that she will say Mommy or Daddy, then if that doesn’t get a prompt response she tries our other name.  That usually works.  Maybe we would respond faster if we could ever find her.
