Skating

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Yesterday’s snow and posting a picture of it, I stumbled across some other winter pictures I hadn’t posted yet.  While we were in Moses Lake, Danelle decided she wanted to go ice skating.  She was really excited leading up to it.

She had help from Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Amy.

After the first pass around the rink, she wasn’t so sure of it, but really wanted one of the red walker type things she saw other kids using.  Even transferring to that was a bit tricky.

She went for a little ways around the rink with that one, but it was still pretty slow going.

After a bit of that, it was time to be done according to Danelle.  Lately she has started pretending she is skating again some, but at the time she didn’t really want to go back anytime soon.  It was one of the few things we’ve done with her she wasn’t excited about later, but she was still pretty hesitant to say she didn’t really like it.  Maybe again in a few years.

More Snow

I’ve pretty much given up telling Danelle that we’ve seen the last snow for the year.  We’ll probably have some for Thea’s birthday this year.

Dance class live tweet

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I’m tweeting Danelle’s dance class. See http://twitter.com/hallsa

Here is a transcript of what happened for after twitter has moved on:

I’ll try live tweeting daughter’s dance class for my lunch break today. Let’s see how it goes.

Shoes are on and they are on to stretches. D is following along this week. (was iffy in the past)

Tapping their feet with periodic jumps.

Over to the balance bar with one foot in the air. Attempts to take hands off the bar are wobbly.

Time for the chicken dance. Danelle loves this one.

Now the “he ruled the others with his quack quack quack song”

With this iPod keyboard they are onto the next thing before I can even finish typing out the tweet. They are spinning in big circle now

Just realized I am the only dad here this week. Usually at least one more. They are sitting INS circle now. Ah getting the ribbons out.

Alright a second dad just showed up. Only parent not reading magazine or playing with little kid though.

Those kids love running around with ribbon wands, but now it is time to sashay instead. (that is the word for dancing sideways, right?)

They are marching. I wonder how many followers I’m going to lose over this. Know it will all be over soon.

Switch from ballet to tap shoes complete. D and all the other girls got help switching. Much noisier in there now.

Walking back and forth to make tapping sounds. Just had a toddler drop a plate on my foot. Don’t worry I’m ok. Was 6″ fall and a small plate

They are almost done, so I’ll be stopping soon and heading home and back to work. Adiós.

Bag Girl

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

If you’ve been around Danelle for any length of time, you’ve likely noticed her carrying a bag stuffed full of stuff.  The exact bag changes often and the contents constantly change.  We try to limit the contents most days and often insist it stays in the car.  Sometimes she packs  it herself while not directly supervised and has gotten quite good at doing so.  For example look next to her on the couch

Turns out those gallon bags hold a lot as she added more moments later.

Moving on Up!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

A couple of times now, I’ve asked Dayna what we are going to do when Thea figures out how to climb the stairs.  I asked her again this afternoon as she was standing next to them and I was in the chair reading to Danelle.  I looked up moment later and saw her standing on first step.  Dayna quickly moved into a spotting position and pretty quickly this is what we had.

Moments later we saw this.

Which was followed by a lunge to get her to turn around and go down feet first, a lesson she still hasn’t quite taken to heart.
