Kids by a Tree

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

We really wanted to get  a good picture of the kids by a tree for this Christmas, but getting cute kid pictures of two kids by a Christmas Tree can be tricky we discovered.

With Danelle and Thea, they never look the same direction. But add in a third and try to take them at 8 in the evening and this is considered a good picture:

Or at least the best I could take that night.

But make it be a single kid on Christmas morning and you get this:

Even adding a big sister back into the equation yields a pretty good picture.

Thanks Rachel

While in Moses Lake, a big box came from Aunt Rachel.  Grammie (Debbie) had been told by Rachel she was sorry for whatever mess happened.

Inside were presents and some packing peanuts.

Danelle thought they were great.

And soon discovered they followed her around.

It made a great mess.

I believe Dayna said something like “Sorry doesn’t cut it”.

Sunday School Concert

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Time to start catching up with Christmas and other holiday events. Expect a few more of these over the next week or so…

A few weeks ago was the big Sunday School concert for Danelle. She got to be a sheep in it. As it turned out, the only sheep, with about 6 shepherds.

I’m pretty sure she was the youngest kid there, but she still had fun.

O.K., Thea was younger, but she wasn’t in the show, she was part of the audience.

Remember when I said there were 6 shepherds? They still seemed to lose their one sheep most of the time.

After the concert, all the kids in it got a candy cane. Arguably the best part of the day for Danelle. Other than going to Mommy’s concerts (symphony and handbells) later that day. Yes, we were the annoying parents at both concerts with Mom playing, Dad in the hallway/narthex with a screaming infant, and a 3 year old by herself in the audience. We are pretty thankful to have a 3 year old we can even consider doing that with though. That would also be why there aren’t any pictures from those concerts.

Thea Sitting

For those of you that were in Moses Lake at Christmas, this will be pretty boring. For those that weren’t, it’s a baby sitting, so you be the judge of how exciting that is :)

Tree Time

Friday, December 19th, 2008

We got a Christmas Tree again this year, even though I still think a pinball machine in the living room would be a great idea, with plenty of room for gifts under it…

After much hunting at the tree farm, we eventually found the tree.

Danelle was eager to help cut the tree down.

A few years ago I cut a tree straight enough that after the blade went through, it stood standing in place with the blade around it.  The perfect cut as I refer to it.  In fact here is the picture where you can see the saw around the trunk.

Note the saw around the base. This was the perfect tree.

This year wasn’t as good, as the tree did fall over, but still pretty straight.  I told the kid that carried the tree to the shaker that I didn’t want the end cut with the chain saw.  He started to say “But it makes…” before looking at it and saying, “That’s pretty straight already”.

I’d say I cut trees down fairly well, but then again look at an average stump someone leaves behind.

Maybe I just think about Christmas Tree stumps more than most people.  And of coures the most fun part of getting a tree is carrying it back to the car.  Danelle helped for a bit before letting me take it the rest of the way in.

Setting the tree up at home was fun.  Let’s just say that after re-arranging the furniture, having a tree laying across the floor, and eventually going to the store for a new stand, we got it up.  After a day or two we even put up some decorations.
