Thea figured out how her bouncy chair works this week.

Thursday, October 30th, 2008Addison’s Baptism
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008The main reason we were in Oregon was for cousin Addison’s baptism. As babies often are she was thrilled to be there.
After the church service, it was the harvest festival dinner at church, which was sort of an Oktoberfest meal. I think sometimes Thea is starting to get sad that she doesn’t get to taste the foods we eat.
Danelle had lots of fun running around with Avery.
They spun, danced, and ran around together for the first time really. Previously they have kind of ignored each other. Here Danelle is saying “What’d you say?”, a common phrase of hers.
Ring Around the Rosy was also popular.
They also let Hunter play with them for a little bit.
As we were getting ready to leave, I heard that Avery was sad Danelle had to leave. Danelle asked me “Will we get to see them again sometime?” I guess that means we have to go visit again some day.
Oregon Zoo
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008This past weekend we went to Hillsboro to visit Dayna’s grandparents and attend Addison’s baptism. Was a pretty fun weekend down there. On Saturday we decided to take the MAX (Portland’s light rail) to the Oregon Zoo.
Danelle was pretty excited to ride a train to get there, which may have been the highlight of the outing for her.
One thing they have there that Seattle doesn’t is a couple of polar bears. I hadn’t realized they were as big compared to grizzly bears as they apparently are. Right next to the polar bears are the sun bear exhibit for a bit of a contrast.
Have I mentioned that Thea likes to watch her big sister lately?
The zoo that day was a trick or treat scavenger hunt day, so lots of kids were wearing costumes and they had 8 clues to solve and get stamps around the zoo. At the bird house they handed the kids binoculars and a check board to locate 6 types of birds. All the kids liked the binoculars, but I don’t think I really saw any kids actually looking for birds with them.
Who doesn’t like penguins?
The elevator back to the train took us underground 200 some feet.
Danelle has given up afternoon naps this last week by the way, so she gets a little tired in the afternoons until a second wind kicks in.
In this tunnel there was a core drilling showing all the layers of ground from the area the tunnel was built, along with a timeline along the wall.
When the trains came, the wind was pushed through the tunnel and sounded kind of spooky.
We have some more pictures from Sunday that will hopefully get online sometime soon.

Sunday, October 26th, 2008Pumpkin Carving
Friday, October 24th, 2008Last weekend was time for pumpkin carving it seems. This year was Thea’s first year to see pumpkins being carved, so she eagerly anticipated the action.
It didn’t take long for the pumpkins to arrive in the house.
Here are all of the pumpkins together.
Here’s the inside of a pumpkin for the curious.
Danelle wasn’t terribly sure about sticking her hand in to the pumpkin guts.
I’m sure there was a funny story as to how a seed got on her head, but I don’t remember it if I ever did know.
Have you ever tried carving a pumkin that already has a candle in it?
In the end Danelle was sure to remind us the pumpkins were supposed to go by the front door.
