Last Saturday was Museum Day, so our family took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Museum of Flight for free. It was a fun morning there and would have easily been worth the normal ticket price. On the way down to the museum, Danelle was pretty excited to be going to see the planes, although she was most excited to see the car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which she decided on her own would be there. Even though we didn’t send up seeing that, she still had a pretty good time.
Almost right away she and I jumped into the cockpit (this is the nose section of an SR-71 – Cool!)
For the curious this is what the full plane looks like.
Pretty quick, she was ready to fly solo.
She wasn’t so sure what was going on though, so this was about as excited as she got while flying as a Blue Angel (the plane moved on a pedestal).
While we were there we got to attend a short class on the Apollo rocket and then Danelle made her own lander to see how it landed. Thea was very interested in the process as well.
Here she is showing off the finished lander.
And here is the drop
Thea and Mommy were good sports while waiting for us other two to look at stuff.
Danelle tried to fly a bi-plane while we were there.
She then took a quick trip up to the International Space Station. The view of earth through the window there was great.
Surprisingly it was only about 6 steps back down to earth, but Danelle thought it was a neat trip up to space and back.
For the final part of the trip we went aboard a plane where Danelle tried to cook us something in the kitchen.
Oh, and that was on a plane that used to be called Air Force One in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.
It was a pretty fun trip and I imagine we’ll go back again some day.
