Visit to the Museum of Flight

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Last Saturday was Museum Day, so our family took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Museum of Flight for free.  It was a fun morning there and would have easily been worth the normal ticket price.  On the way down to the museum, Danelle was pretty excited to be going to see the planes, although she was most excited to see the car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which she decided on her own would be there.  Even though we didn’t send up seeing that, she still had a pretty good time.

Almost right away she and I jumped into the cockpit (this is the nose section of an SR-71 – Cool!)

For the curious this is what the full plane looks like.

Pretty quick, she was ready to fly solo.

She wasn’t so sure what was going on though, so this was about as excited as she got while flying as a Blue Angel (the plane moved on a pedestal).

While we were there we got to attend a short class on the Apollo rocket and then Danelle made her own lander to see how it landed.  Thea was very interested in the process as well.

Here she is showing off the finished lander.

And here is the drop

Thea and Mommy were good sports while waiting for us other two to look at stuff.

Danelle tried to fly a bi-plane while we were there.

She then took a quick trip up to the International Space Station.  The view of earth through the window there was great.

Surprisingly it was only about 6 steps back down to earth, but Danelle thought it was a neat trip up to space and back.

For the final part of the trip we went aboard a plane where Danelle tried to cook us something in the kitchen.

Oh, and that was on a plane that used to be called Air Force One in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

It was a pretty fun trip and I imagine we’ll go back again some day.

Sunday School

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

This year Danelle is finally old enough to start attending Sunday School.  The class she is in is for pre-k and kindergarten kids.  I think she is the youngest at almost three.  So far she has really enjoyed the class and has so far been learning about Joseph and how his brothers were jealous.  This also inspired her to want us to read Joseph stories out of her Bible a few nights rather than the stories that were next in her nightly bedtime story.

The first day she was in class they did lots of fun things with all the different age groups for Rally Sunday.  One of them was to contribute handprints to be used on a quilt.

She also decorated a neat surfboard.  (It was a Hawaiin themed day)

Dressing Thea

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Dayna went to PLU for the day last weekend, leaving the girls with me.  Danelle was helpful in picking out Thea’s clothing.

As is often the case, Thea wasn’t sure what to think.

We tried to get her to take a picture while on her stomache.

While it didn’t work that time, for the record sometimes it does, so we weren’t being mean just to be mean.

Double Trouble

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Usually when two kids get into trouble, everyone assumes the oldest is the ring leader.

Especially when they are looking out to see if anyone is watching.

I can assure you in this case, this was the instigator:

Next time it will probably be Danelle showing Nicholas what to get into though.

Time to Swim!

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

On Tuesday morning, before we had changed out of jammies, Danelle came to me and told me she wanted to go swimming (with swim hat and goggles in hand). We haven’t been swimming since Thea was born–I just don’t know how to do it without extra adult help. So, I think she is missing it.

I told her that we couldn’t go today (we had Bible Study), but that she could pretend swim, then I tried to finish email. She said, “K”, and ran off. Next thing I know, she comes back with her jammies and underwear off with her swim diaper in their place, her swim cap on and her goggles (no glasses), and says she needs help getting her swim suit on… When I said pretend, I meant the whole get up too, but she just meant pretend swimming–with appropriate gear. Here are some pics of her pretend swimming.

Guess we need to go swimming again pretty soon. She told Shane yesterday, “We can go swimming at Waterbabies! Yes. We Can!” Such conviction!
